Insulin pump and Software engineering? doctors please?
Hi all
this is a medical question…but here’s an intro so you’d understand
I am working on a project for people who suffer diabetics, an insulin pump supplied with a lil computer and all the safety stuff…but the question here is how can I make sure it won’t inject insulin in someone who has low or high sugar level but not diabetics?
what are the quick ways to diagonise diabetics?
First of all, I don’t believe you. Your comments show that you have absolutely NO EXPERIENCE of pump technology or you’d know that all pumps ARE a “lil computer” in their own right.
Having said that, there’s absolutely no way in this world that you could prevent an insulin pump from infusing insulin to someone that has a too low or too high a blood sugar level.
Even with the CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitoring) that has already been mentioned you still have to tell the pump how much insulin to infuse, thuogh there are pumps that work in accordance with a CGM that will suspend insulin delivery when someone’s blood sugar (glucose) level is registered as too low … and this can be programmed into the pump by the user.
The ONLY way to diagnose diabetes mellitus is via blood test(s). Sometimes one blood test would be all that would be required … usually type 1 diabetes … and at other times, more than one blood test would be required, such as if a person were pre-diabetic, suffering gestational diabetes, type 2 diabetic when blood sugar levels are not too high, with people that are glucose intolerant, or when blood test results are inconclusive.
